In some of our previous blogs, the Hollywood kitchen and bath remodelers at The Home People have discussed some of the most cost-effective renovations you can make for your home. But what if “money ain’t a thang?” What if you’re less concerned about cost, and more concerned about having the home of your dreams?

If this is your mindset about home renovation, we salute you. While The Home People love to work out cost-effective renovation strategies, there’s something about those high-end, luxury renovations that get us all excited because we can showcase our remodeling skills and craftsmanship at the highest possible level.

In this blog, we’re going to give you some luxury renovation inspiration. Here are some home improvement projects that might not be great in terms of ROI, but are ultimately luxurious and enjoyable. These are the “fine wine” home renovations.

The Luxury Bathroom Remodel

Remember that time you and your wife got a five-star hotel room in Belize for your honeymoon? The beds were comfortable, and the view from the balcony was your cover photo for six months—but it was the bathroom that put your honeymoon over the top. With all that marble, the large bay windows, and tub that feels more like a personal hot tub, it’s less of a bathroom and more of a work of art.

At a certain point in life, you deserve more than just a bathroom—you need a space that sets the mood for relaxation, offers all the bells and whistles to keep you groomed and pampered, and feels as luxurious as you are. Opt for high-end materials and finishes, pick out a spacious tub with some high-powered jets, cut some holes in the walls to add energy efficient windows, and add all the art, mirrors, and mood lighting you need for a five-star renovation. True luxury is in the details—don’t you dare buy cheap department store towels when it’s all said and done.

The Master Suite Addition

We’re going to assume your luxury bathroom remodel is meant for the master bathroom—and we celebrate how truly selfish you are. But what’s that master bathroom renovation worth if you don’t trick out your master bedroom in the process? Your current master “suite” has a bed (obviously) and probably some sort of closet or wardrobe. But if you’re going to elevate your master bedroom to suite status, you’ll need to add some square footage to your space.

Adding on 100 square feet could be just what you need to make room for luxury—you could install a fireplace, add some windows for more natural light, create the coziest reading nook of all time, or build the custom walk-in closet of your dreams. The possibilities for a master suite are endless—so use your imagination, and keep things as luxurious as possible.

The Grand Entrance

Remember when MTV Cribs was still a thing? You’d get to check out the beyond-luxurious homes of NBA players, Grammy-winning rappers, A-List actors, and other assorted celebrities. While many of these homes had 50-foot fishtanks, 20-car garages filled with Lamborghinis and Bentleys, and insane home theatre systems, there’s only one thing all of these cribs have in common: a stunning front entrance.

Your front entrance sets the tone for your entire home—it says “get ready for the luxury inside.” Invest in a stately pergola, a large, heavy-looking front door, and of course, some shrubbery to tie it all together. Don’t forget to add a short stairway up to your door—a symbolic move that reminds guests they must “step up” to reach your level of class.

Plus, when you inevitably become famous, you’ll have a grand entrance to show off—all you have to say is “welcome to my crib.”

The Decked Out Deck

There are plenty of DIY dads who have built decks in the past—and ultimately, they throw a few chairs on top, fire up the grill, and call it a day. That’s great, but it’s just not luxurious enough for this blog. For the ultimate deck, you need over-the-top add-ons, custom deck shapes, and—you guessed it—an outdoor kitchen.

Try building a larger deck and dividing it into multiple levels or zones—this will give you added livable square footage for your outdoor space, and allow you to use your deck in many different ways for different crowds.

The most amazing decks have quasi-rooms, just like a house. Add a kitchen area for the grill, counter space to prepare and serve food, and cabinetry to keep everything neat and organized. Create a dining space with plenty of tables and chairs, and maybe a small bar, if you’re into that sort of thing. Finally, add the one thing every great deck needs: a built-in hot tub. That’s what it’s all about.

The Ultimate Basement

Have you seen the trailer for that new The House movie with Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler? Just goes to show that basements have a ton of potential to be luxurious and fun. (NOTE: We will not construct an illegal casino, or anything illegal, in your basement. But we would definitely construct a beautiful room with a big bar and some poker tables—you know, for family reunions and friendly gatherings.)

The basement is the ultimate blank canvas of home remodeling. You can do whatever you want down there, like construct a home theatre room with bean bags, recliners and a massive TV, build a huge bar (did we say build a huge bar?), or create an entire house within a house so you can rent out your basement space and chip away at that mortgage.

Spending money on luxury gets a bit more difficult in the basement, but there are many ways to create a high-end basement look. Built-in shelving can house your TV, knick knacks, and books (and a fireplace), and luxurious wood flooring can be a nice change of pace in a space that’s usually carpeted. Finally, you need luxurious lighting to brighten up your subterranean space—something that will make the space feel less like a basement and more like a warm and cozy oasis for all of your favorite activities.

We’ll see you at the huge bar.

The Over-The-Top Kitchen

The Home People have done some excellent luxury kitchen renovations over the years—but there’s a big difference between a luxury feel and a luxury kitchen. In the world of kitchens, luxury isn’t just found in the finishes and materials—it’s in the space-age, high-end appliances.

If there’s one room in the house where you should spend, spend, spend, it’s the kitchen. Get everything you want and need for culinary success—that restaurant-quality range, that extra pot-filler, that wine fridge, and that big kahuna of a refrigerator. Heck, get that $800 juicer that can masticate an entire pineapple. You’re luxurious! Get yourself some luxurious kitchen stuff because you deserve it.
